Frequently Asked Questions

What is blended learning?

Blended learning is an approach to education that combines online and face-to-face delivery of courses.

What are the benefits of blended learning?

Blended learning allows participants to organise their learning to fit their lives. Participants can access courses from anywhere, at any time and work through them at their own pace. Content is presented in a variety of engaging formats to cater for different learning preferences e.g. videos, animations, written materials and links to online resources.

In addition, blended learning includes the personal and social dimensions of education so often missing in online courses. Participants will be supported by an online tutor and learn alongside 12 to 14 colleagues. The online tutor will guide and monitor progress through the course, facilitate online forums and present up to three face-to-face sessions with the group.

Where were YarraMe’s courses developed and are they relevant to schools in Australia?

Course content was developed by educators from Australian jurisdictions and YarraMe School; and adapted for the Victorian government school context. Courses include Victorian and international case studies.

The online delivery platform is licensed from and hosted by Online Training International.

What type of assessments will the course involve?

Participants are required to use the assessment and intervention processes explored in the course to set goals and strategies for a student in their class. At the end of the course, participants are required to report outcomes of their strategies to their online tutor. This helps participants to embed what they learn in practice.

Successful completion of the course requires that participants read all online content, complete three quizzes, contribute to ten online forums, write three goals and interventions and participate in three face-to-face sessions.

Where will the face-to-face sessions take place?

The online tutor will arrange three face-to-face sessions via WebEx.

What IT skills or computer equipment do I need?

Participants will need a computer with access to the internet. The online learning platform is simple and user friendly and participants will be guided through the course by an online tutor.
Does this course meet the Special Needs Plan training requirements?
Yes, it does. The Victorian Government’s Special Needs Plan requires that teachers build their capacity to teach learners with disabilities. Teachers must be able to identify what they’ve learned as part of their PD and have evidence of attendance and engagement.

YarraMe’s Understanding Attachment and Trauma and Supporting Wellbeing and Mental Health courses are referenced to the following descriptors in the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and meet the requirements of the Special Needs Plan:
  • Develop teaching activities that incorporate differentiated strategies to meet the specific learning needs of learners across the full range of abilities (Descriptor 1.5)
  • Design and implement teaching activities that support the learning and participation of learners with disability and address relevant policy and legislative requirements (Descriptor 1.6)
  • Establish and implement inclusive and positive interactions to engage and support all learners in classroom activities (Descriptor 4.1).
