Principal's Welcome
Dear Students, Families and Community Members,
Welcome to Yarra Me School. We’re delighted to have you visit our website.
This page gives you a quick overview of who we are and what we do. You can explore further by following the links on this page or using the menu at the top of the site.
Scope
Yarra Me accepts referrals only from Victorian state primary school in the North-Western metropolitan region of Melbourne.
The Hurstbridge Farm program accepts referrals exclusively from the Victorian Department of Families, Fairness and Housing.
Our Purpose
At Yarra Me, we work closely with each child, their parents and carers, and their mainstream school.
Our purpose is simple: to help every child reconnect with learning and participate successfully at school.
We aim to set children up for success when they return to, or continue in, their home school.
What We Believe
We believe that:
- Every child deserves to feel safe, valued and understood.
- Every child wants to belong at school.
- Every child wants to succeed socially and academically.
- Every child can grow their understanding of the world and respond to challenges in positive ways.
- Mistakes are part of learning, and with the right support they become opportunities for growth.
- Children learn best when the adults around them work together as a strong, aligned team.
- Individualised support that builds on strengths and addresses challenges helps every child thrive.
- When we focus on Partnerships, Personalisation, and Pedagogy, we create the conditions children need to grow.
How We Do It
We support children through programs that are:
- Time-limited
- Goal-focused
- Centred on the individual needs of each learner, and always in partnership with families and referring schools.
Our programs include:
- The Preston Program and Hurstbridge Farm (classroom-based)
- Positive Partnerships Service (outreach-based)
- A range of Professional Development opportunities for Victorian state Primary Schools
We use a 'Team Around the Learner' approach, where families, referring schools, allied health professionals and Yarra Me staff work together to wrap support around each child.
Our specialist team is committed to trauma-informed and relational practice, recognising that behaviour is a form of communication. We seek to understand the reasons behind behaviour, meet the underlying needs, and support the child’s growth with confidence.
Please feel free to contact Yarra Me School at any time.
We welcome your questions and your curiosity.
Thank you,
Jonathan Stone
