  • work through 6 modules of online course content, (licensed from and hosted by Online Training International / OLT), over a period of approximately 8-10 weeks, and
  • attend 3 mandatory online sessions (75 – 90 minutes each) with the course tutor via the WebEx platform.

Course content

  • Explore the concepts wellbeing and mental health, the main influences on these and the impact of mental health difficulties on student outcomes
  • Learn about the main types of mental health disorders and their incidence, and the relationship between mental health and disability.

Assessment for Learning
  • Learn how and when to use wellbeing surveys and questionnaires in schools; and how to evaluate the results of these.
  • Develop a conceptual framework for supporting mental health in schools where pupils and teachers can thrive.
Interventions

  • Create and test your own ‘whole school approach’ action plan
  • Determine when to seek further information and support from a variety of sources
Case Studies
  • View real examples that illustrate both the student voice, as well as how schools’ approach and implement wellbeing and mental health supports and interventions in their setting.

Successful completion of the course requires that participants:
  • read all online content, complete end of section quizzes,
  • contribute to online forum topics,
  • develop three SMART goals with accompanying interventions to apply learning into practice in both the whole school and classroom setting.
  • participate in three face-to-face sessions (WebEx meetings).
A certificate recognising 20 hours of professional learning is provided on passing the course.

Course Audience:

This course is designed for education professionals working in schools and specialist settings including teachers, school leaders, primary and secondary wellbeing officers and teams, and allied health officers.

As components of the course focus on student assessment, goal setting and program planning, interested Education Support staff (aides) should discuss this with a teacher from their school as it is best practice for teachers and ES to collaborate on these parts of the course.
